1949 Chrysler New Yorker

Vehicle Description 1949 Chrysler New Yorker $14,500 "Gateway Classic Cars is proud to present this iconic 1949 Chrysler New Yorker, a true symbol of post-war American luxury, comfort, and prestige. Marking Chrysler's celebrated 25th anniversary, 1949 introduced the brand's all-new ""Second Series"" design-moving away from pre-war carryover styling in favor of sleek, pontoon-style bodylines, integrated flush fenders, and a commanding broad chrome egg-crate grille that makes an unforgettable first impression. Under the hood sits Chrysler's legendary ""Spitfire"" 323.5 cu in (5.3L) L-head inline-eight cylinder engine. Known for its remarkable smoothness and low-end torque, this flathead eight puts out 135 horsepower and pairs perfectly with the Presto-Matic Fluid Drive 4-speed semi-automatic transmission. The Fluid Drive system delivers a effortlessly refined driving experience, allowing you to bring the vehicle to a complete stop in gear without touching the clutch pedal, then pull away with whisper-quiet ease. Inside, the cabin offers a plush, spacious environment designed around executive-class comfort and early safety innovation. Bench seating upholstered in period-correct fabric accommodates full-size adults with room to spare, complemented by elegant woodgrain trim and a clean, easy-to-read ""Safety-Eye"" instrument cluster set into a padded dashboard layout. Chrysler's heavy-duty chassis and generous 131.5-inch wheelbase provide a cloud-like ride over modern highways, while ""Safe-Guard"" hydraulic drum brakes ensure confident stopping power. Dressed with timeless period touches-including gleaming chrome bumpers, detailed brightwork, and full-size wide whitewall tires mounted on Safety-Rim wheels-this '49 New Yorker stands ready as a standout cruiser for weekend shows, parades, or any vintage car collection.
