Description
As part of Packard’s influential “bathtub” generation, introduced for 1948, the Super Eight featured streamlined then-modern body styling that was radically different from the separate-fender designs of the prewar era and reflected the automotive industry’s transition toward modern automotive design.
For 1949, Packard celebrated its 50th anniversary and continued refining the model, adding a new Super Eight Deluxe variant. The Super Eight retained the smooth, powerful inline-eight engine and luxury appointments that had made Packard one of America’s premier marques. Although its styling was controversial enough to earn the nickname “bathtub Packard,” the design was popular with buyers and helped keep Packard competitive during the critical postwar years.
This 1949 Packard Super Eight Convertible is finished in blue with a blue and white two-tone bench seat interior. It is powered by Packard's renowned 327ci inline "straight eight" eight-cylinder engine, mated to a three-speed column-shifted manual transmission with factory-optional overdrive. Inside, it features hydraulic power windows, a power convertible top, and a custom cupholder/stereo console. The electrical system has been converted to 12-volts, and it rides on steel wheels wrapped in white wall tires.
