The Fordillac originated in 1949 when innovative mechanics and racers, began installing Cadillac OHV V8 engines into new Ford cars, replacing the standard flathead engines. These conversions were marketed as Fordillacs, offering 160-horsepower, 331-cubic-inch Cadillac engines with either manual or automatic transmissions, along with optional engine and chassis upgrades. These vehicles were a very important milestone in early hot rod history.
