Description
This Mercedes-Benz 170 S Cabriolet B was completed at Sindelfingen in August 1950. Delivered to Philipsons Automobil A/B in Malmö, Sweden, it was first registered in November 1950. The seller acquired the vehicle in Örebro, Sweden, in 1975 and it arrived in Oakland, California, in 1977. The car is finished in dark blue over gray leather equipped with a 1.8-liter inline-four paired, a four-speed manual transmission, a beige convertible top, chrome landau bars, 16″ steel wheels, and four-wheel drum brakes. This non-running W136 project is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name. The 170 S debuted in May 1949 at the Hannover Technical Export Fair alongside the more utilitarian 170 D as the first new passenger car models introduced by Mercedes-Benz following World War II. It rode on underpinnings derived from the 170 V, but with a more powerful variant of the engine, a coil-sprung wishbone front suspension, and a roomier body with styling based on the pre-war 230 luxury model. The 170 S was offered as a sedan as well as two- and four-seat cabriolets.
