Description
OVERVIEWThe Jeepster was introduced in April 1948 and built through 1950, styled by industrial designer Brooks Stevens as an open sporty car aimed at World War II veterans, built on Jeep underpinnings but offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive rather than the four-wheel drive buyers associated with the Willys name. Production totaled 19,132 over its three-year run: 10,326 in 1948, 2,960 in 1949, and 5,836 in 1950, the final model year, which this car represents. The factory originally offered the 134 cubic inch "Go Devil" four-cylinder in 1948, joined by the L148 "Lightning" inline-six in 1949; this car's 198 cubic inch Buick V6 is a later period-style engine swap rather than a factory-original unit, a common upgrade path for Jeepsters since the factory engines were widely considered underpowered for the car's weight and intended sporty character.View More
