Description
This 1955 Bentley R-Type saloon is one of approximately 2,320 examples produced during the model run. Chassis B99ZX is believed to have spent time under the ownership of a British ex-pat in Washington, D.C., before being returned to England in 1957. It was sold to its second steward around 1978 prior to being acquired by the late owner in 1983 and brought to the US, where it underwent a repaint in its factory Velvet Green finish at a shop in Portland, Oregon, in 1990. The car features a sliding sunroof along with rear-hinged front doors and is powered by a 4.6-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed automatic transmission. It rides on 16″ steel wheels with painted covers and is equipped with servo-assisted drum brakes as well as an adjustable rear lever-arm suspension. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in beige Connolly leather and accented by burl wood trim. Further appointments include driving lights, rear tray tables, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. This R-Type saloon is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner’s estate with a copy of the factory build record, service records, a handwritten maintenance and mileage logbook, a collection of awards, a tool kit, and a clean Oregon title. The car left the factory finished in Velvet Green with Ivory pinstriping and was repainted in its factory hue at Tom Black’s Garage of Portland, Oregon, in 1990. Some of the exterior trim was also refinished at that time. The seller notes orange peel and bubbling in the paint on the right-front door panel as well as cracking around the front fender indicators.
