The 1956 Buick Super Riviera Sedan (Model 53) was a four-door hardtop offered within the Buick Super series, known for its spacious cabin, distinct "airplane-inspired" styling, and luxury features. It featured the potent 322 cubic inch V8 engine paired with the smooth Dynaflow transmission, and was popular for its combination of performance, comfort, and a competitive price point for the middle-range market. Key Characteristics Body Style: A four-door hardtop, a body-on-frame construction that was one of Buick's most sought-after models for its combination of a spacious interior and a luxurious look in a "more compact" package than the larger Century and Roadmaster models. Engine and Transmission: Powered by the original 322 cubic inch V8 engine, which produced 255 horsepower for the 1956 Super series. It was equipped with the two-speed Dynaflow automatic transmission. Styling: The design was influenced by the era's fascination with aviation, featuring a broad grille with thin horizontal slats, a distinct hood ornament, and a massive wrapped-around bumper. Features: The Super series came with a large Fisher body and was a popular choice due to its attractive base price and standard features like power steering and the Dynaflow transmission, which were often optional on other series. Historical Context "Riviera" Designation: "Riviera" was a term Buick used to denote their hardtop offerings, making the four-door hardtop version a highly desirable option. Market Position: The Super Riviera Sedan occupied a strong position in the middle price range, offering substantial performance and a luxurious driving experience. WE SELL AND SHIP WORLDWIDE Read More
