In 1954, Plymouth shifted the Belvedere nameplate from a mere pillarless hardtop body style and introduced the Belvedere now as its own separate model. For the better part of the rest of the decade, the Belvedere was the highest trimmed model for the Chrysler marque and was a status symbol for the Plymouth faithful. In 1957, like all of the cars in Plymouth's lineup, the Belvedere was completely redesigned with an all new, modernized style. The entire front end had a whole new look, including a brand new aluminum grille, a new curvy bumper design, and a quad front lighting setup. The side silhuoutte was also completely reworked with a more refined trim running from nose to tail, and perhaps most notably and similar to nearly every automaker in 1957, the addition of much larger tailfins in the rear.
