Description
This 1959 Mercedes-Benz 220S cabriolet was the subject of a multi-year mechanical and cosmetic project that was completed before the seller’s acquisition in 2019. The body was refinished in gray over replacement red leather upholstery, and power is provided by a 2.2-liter M180 inline-six that was overhauled. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission with a column shifter, and the car rides on steel 13″ wheels with covers and whitewall tires. A black convertible soft top is contrasted by a red top boot, and further details include fog lights, fender-mounted turn signals, individual front seats, a wood-trimmed dashboard, a Becker AM/FM radio, and a heater. This W180 cabriolet is now offered with a car show award, woven floor mats, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name. The W180 “Ponton” models featured Pontoon-style bodywork with integrated fenders and a unit-body chassis design. This example left the factory finished in black and was repainted gray following reported rust repairs and bodywork on the hood, trunk lid, floors, wheel wells, and quarter panels. The wrap-around chrome bumpers with overriders were also refurbished. The car has a black soft top, a red top boot, fog lights, fender-mounted turn signals, and a driver-side mirror. Photos of paint meter readings are shown in the gallery below.
