Description
KEY FACTS This Volkswagen Beetle De Luxe is a charming early example of the instantly recognisable air-cooled classic, benefiting from a sympathetic photo-documented restoration completed in 2004. It is powered by a 1.2-litre air-cooled flat-four, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. It was first registered in September 1959 and was supplied by Belfast Volkswagen main agent Isaac Agnew Ltd, with its original sales invoice confirming the De Luxe specification and red exterior finish. It remained with its first keeper for around 35 years, before undergoing a comprehensive restoration between 1993 and 2004, which is documented by more than 60 photographs, as shown in the photo gallery. It has been with its current keeper for five years. The odometer indicates 64,355 miles, which the seller believes to be the genuine total. EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES The car is finished in red with a re-trimmed grey vinyl interior, complemented by a body-coloured painted metal dashboard and chrome exterior trim. It rides on 15-inch wheels and features chrome bumpers, chrome body trim, a centrally mounted speedometer, and vinyl-clad door cards. An elegant vintage Sirram dining set is housed in a case in the luggage compartment and is included with the car. It is accompanied by its original handbooks, the original 1959 new-car sales invoice, more than 60 photographs documenting the restoration, and a selection of invoices. CONDITION Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: There is some minor bubbling around the front end, wheel arches, and roof, as well as one or two minor stone chips in the same areas. There are also some marks on the outer glass of the central speedometer. SERVICE HISTORY The car underwent a detailed restoration between 1993 and 2004, with the work documented by more than 60 photographs, including full repaint as well as an interior retrim.
