Description
Created as an open-air counterpart to Ferrari’s competition-derived 250 GT Berlinettas, the 250 GT California Spyder has become one of the most recognizable and valuable sports cars of its era, with surviving genuine examples commanding eight-figure prices. This hand-built CalSpyder recreation was built by Renucci and combines period-inspired styling with a Jaguar-sourced 5.3-liter V12, a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, and a custom chassis. Originally commissioned by a European customer in black over red, the car was subsequently refinished by Renucci in its current Rosso Corsa with a Saddle Tan leather interior at the request of a later owner. The current owner acquired the car in 2019 and has since driven approximately 2,300 miles of the 3,990 miles currently indicated. Combining unmistakable California Spyder-inspired styling with V12 power, a 5-speed manual gearbox, and modernized chassis hardware, this Renucci-built recreation is now being offered for auction in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Designed to closely replicate the proportions and appearance of the legendary Scaglietti-designed Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, the fiberglass bodywork is finished in Rosso Corsa and mounted over a custom frame. Signature styling elements include covered headlights, a low-profile windshield, sculpted hood scoop, fender vents, chrome bumpers, and an open two-seat configuration. The car rides on 16” chrome wire wheels secured by knock-off hubs and fitted with BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 tires. The tires are reported to remain in excellent condition but are noted to date from the car’s original build. According to the owner, the car has been stored indoors in a heated space throughout his ownership and has never been driven in the rain
