Vehicle Description 1961 Volkswagen Type 2 Single Cab Pickup $44,961 1961 Volkswagen Type 2 Single Cab Pickup, 1600cc Air-Cooled Flat-Four, 4-Speed Manual, 76,246 Believed Original Miles, Dove Blue This 1961 Volkswagen Type 2 Single Cab Pickup is a very cool and distinctive example of Volkswagen’s legendary early commercial vehicle, combining the unmistakable split-window styling of the Type 2 with the utility and character of the desirable Single Cab configuration. Finished in classic Dove Blue with a restored Blue Interior, this Volkswagen has a wonderfully vintage appearance and plenty of personality. The truck has reportedly remained with the same owner since approximately 2000, giving it an impressive long-term ownership history. The odometer currently shows 76,246 miles, believed to be original, further adding to the appeal and history of this unique early Volkswagen. The body was refinished in Dove Blue around 2000 and continues to present well today. A handful of minor areas have received cosmetic touch-ups over the years, helping maintain the truck’s overall appearance while preserving the character expected from an early Type 2. One of the most appealing features of the Single Cab is its incredibly practical cargo area. The large pickup bed features fold-down gates on both sides and at the rear, allowing easy access from three directions. Underneath the bed is Volkswagen’s clever “Treasure Chest” storage compartment, which runs across the width of the truck and provides additional enclosed storage beneath the cargo floor. It is one of the coolest and most recognizable design features found on these early Volkswagen pickups. Exterior details include body-color steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, round headlights, dual side mirrors, and contrasting white bumpers, all helping retain the classic utilitarian appearance that makes these trucks so desirable. Inside, the cab has been restored during the current ownership and features a recovered Blue Vinyl Bench Seat, refinished interior surfaces, and the simple, functional layout Volkswagen was known for. The body-color metal dashboard, two-spoke steering wheel, centrally mounted VDO speedometer, rubber floor covering, and floor-mounted shifter all contribute to the authentic early Volkswagen driving experience. The original identification plate remains in place behind the seat, while the rear of the cab provides access to the spare-wheel area. Power comes from a rear-mounted 1600cc air-cooled flat-four engine paired with a 4-Speed Manual Transmission, sending power to the rear wheels. The previous owner believes the engine was rebuilt sometime around the late 1990s or approximately 2000. Documentation confirming the exact date or specifics of the rebuild is not currently available, so buyers are encouraged to inspect and verify any details important to their purchase decision. The truck has received regular maintenance during its long-term ownership, including recent fluid servicing, and is reported to run and drive properly.
