Description
The Story of a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 In 1964 the Fairlane 500 sat in the middle of Ford’s lineup—bigger and more substantial than the Falcon, a step below the Galaxie, and ready to be whatever the buyer wanted it to be. It was the year the 260 and 289 small-blocks were still the heart of the intermediate line, and the Fairlane wore clean, squared-off styling that looked purposeful without shouting. This particular car, VIN 4K41F168914, has traveled 95,816 miles and now shows the marks of a thoughtful refresh rather than a full concours restoration. Under the hood sits a 347 cubic-inch engine, not the original numbers-matching unit, paired with an automatic overdrive transmission. The engine compartment is clean, the car starts and runs without issue, and no leaks were noted at the time of inspection. Power steering and power brakes are present, with disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. Wiring has been updated, fluids are clean and full, and the major systems—lights, signals, wipers, heater, gauges, and belts—all function as they should. The exterior is red. Paint measures 4.2 mil and matches across the panels, though closer inspection reveals dirt specs, small divets, and light scratches that could be buffed. Chrome shows some scuffs, dents, and light pitting. The frame has been redone, with a few areas of undercoating that weren’t fully covered and some light spots under the doors and around the rear window frames. Door and trunk gaps are mostly even, with minor fit notes on the driver’s side. Inside, the black-and-red interior has been redone. Seats and carpet show no excessive wear or water damage, and the cabin is clean. Window gaskets appear solid, and the glass has only minor scratches. Rated #3 Very Good on the OCPG scale, this Fairlane was appraised on March 25, 2025, by American Classic Appraisal Services for Fair Market Value in connection with a potential purchase. It is not a perfect show car or an untouched survivor.
