Description
Description1965 was a unique year for Corvettes and this low mileage car has had the same husband/wife owner since 1977! Included are many detailed receipts showing the work done over their 45 years of ownership In ’65, the 327 Fuel Injected Engine was discontinued and, in its place, beginning in March of ’65, the first L78 396/425HP Big Block Engine was produced in a Corvette! The 396 was used only from Mar-Aug of ’65 because the 427 was introduced in the ’66 model year. Because the 396 had only a 5-month production run, needless to say, they are a very sought-after car! The big block needed more hood clearance, so the “Power Blister” hood was created and used on the ’65 and ’66 Big Block cars and it was also the first year for factory side pipes, knock off whees and a std power antenna. Nassau Blue (code FF) was the most popular color in ’65 with over 25% of the Vettes produced in that color, the Blue interior and white top are also the correct color combination for this year. This Vette was assembled on May 11th 1965 (J11 Date Code), has the factory installed side pipes, original and working AM/FM Radio, Teak Steering Wheel, Lug Wrench with Bumper Jack and more. Over the years the car has had a new Cnvt top, top pads, seat covers and seat foam, carpet, tires, brake calipers with new lines, engine compartment wiring including fuse block and a complete engine overhaul in 1999 which has been driven less that 2K mi since O/H. The engine runs perfect, the car goes down the road straight and stops straight. The frame is straight, solid and appears to be “no hit”. The body has a touch of the custom craze of the ‘60s and ‘70s as shown by the third tail light and hidden front directionals, it had a repaint of the original color in 1988. (the original fiberglass directional housings, lights and lens are retained). The body gaps and fiberglass are all good. All courtesy, dash and exterior lights work. With the exception of the original clock, all gauges, speedo, tach, odometer and trip meter properly work. The power antenna has been replaced with a manual antenna, but the switch and orig wiring is still intact so it can easily be reinstalled. The original engine block was replaced for unknown reasons in 1977 with a factory new short block from a Chev dealer, the written receipt dated Apr ’77 is in the file. The Cyl heads are original, have correct part #s with casting dates of Mar ’65. Also correct are the Exh Manifolds, the Alum Intake manufactured by the Winters Corporation, Air Cleaner, Master Brake Cyl, Radiator over-flow tank and 3:70 Posi Rear End. The trans is a correct Muncie but has a 1967 Manufacturing date. The Engine Pad stamping is believed to be a field replacement of the origin stamping, but do not have verification of that. If additional info is needed, regarding date codes, etc, there is a complete Excel Spread Sheet available. This car is a real eye catcher, 100% turn-key vehicle that is ready to go, sounds awesome, and will get you a thumbs up every time you drive it. For those who remember, Jan and Dean immortalized this car in their ‘60s hit song “Dead Man’s Curve” which was about a Vette drag racing a Jaguar XKE. The classic line in that song that matches this car was, “and all the Jag could see were my six tail lights”…………. Remember, Life is too short to drive boring cars! Ken 262 573 8269 Read More
