1965 Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang quickly became a cultural phenomenon and was selected to pace the 1964 Indianapolis 500. To commemorate the occasion, Ford produced a limited run of specially prepared hardtops and convertibles finished in Pace Car White with blue graphics and Indy 500-themed identification.

This 1964.5 Ford Mustang Coupe is an Indianapolis 500 Pace Car promotional vehicle, and it has remained under the seller's care for 44 years.

Reportedly originally identified as Pace Car 041, this example was one of approximately 220 produced to commemorate the 48th running of the Indianapolis 500 in May of 1964. The car was refinished in Pace Car White with blue stripes and graphics approximately 43 years ago. Powered by a 260ci V8 paired with a C4 automatic transmission, this Mustang reportedly underwent an engine refresh and reseal in 1983, followed by a transmission rebuild in 2008.

Equipment includes 13-inch steel wheels with polished covers, chrome trim, a push-button radio, polished door scuff plates, lap belts, and a white-and-blue interior featuring replacement seat covers, door panels, carpeting, and dashboard components.
