Description
OVERVIEWThe K-code 289 High Performance was Ford's top engine offering for the 1965 Mustang, a solid-lifter, high-compression unit producing 271 horsepower that required a four-speed manual transmission and was fitted to fewer than 1% of 1965 Mustang production. The K-code Fastback is the rarest and most desirable configuration of the first-generation car: the combination of the high-performance engine, Fastback body, and four-speed accounts for a small fraction of that already-limited number. Carroll Shelby's GT-350 was itself a K-code Fastback, transformed by Shelby American in 1965 for sanctioned SCCA B-Production competition; the connection between the K-code platform and the GT-350 is direct and documented, making the tribute interpretation of this build historically grounded rather than aspirational. This example's FOMOCO Certificate of Origin, documentation to 1965, positions it at the documented end of the K-code market. Parts support for the 289 HP is strong through Mustang specialists including Mustangs Unlimited and National Parts Depot, and the K-code community is among the most active and knowledgeable of any first-generation Mustang group.View More
