Vehicle Description 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT $64,966 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT Convertible, Matching Numbers, Ember Glow, True Survivor, 390 V8 There are cars you restore and then there are cars you preserve. This 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT Convertible falls firmly into the second category. It represents a rare opportunity to own a true, documented survivor with matching numbers, actual mileage, and a highly desirable factory GT configuration. Finished in its original Ember Glow, this Cyclone GT received a single high-quality repaint in August 2025 at just 59,476 actual miles. The finish honors the car’s originality while elevating its overall presentation. Complementing the exterior is a brand-new white convertible top in the correct original color, giving the car a clean, crisp, factory-correct appearance. Inside, the story continues with an original Parchment interior that has been carefully preserved over time. The originality here matters and it shows. The carpet has been replaced in the correct Ember Glow color, while the factory seat belts remain in place. A tasteful addition of custom floor mats provides protection without compromising authenticity. Under the hood is where this car truly separates itself. It retains its original, matching numbers 390 cubic inch V8, rated at 335 horsepower, with the correct C6ME stamping on the engine block. The original Sport Shift Merc-O-Matic (C6) transmission is also present, with proper stamping, along with the original Posi Traction rear axle clearly identified on the VIN tag. This is the kind of drivetrain integrity that serious collectors look for and rarely find intact. As a true Cyclone GT, this car is equipped with its factory performance and appearance package, including chrome air cleaner, chrome valve covers with Cyclone GT emblems (recently re-chromed), GT badging throughout, and the correct reverse-spun chrome-style hubcaps. The car sits on new correct white wall tires, completing its period-correct stance. The signature white exterior stripes further reinforce its identity as a genuine GT model. Mechanically, this car has been thoughtfully maintained and updated where it matters. The engine, transmission, and rear end have been rebuilt in the past, and recent service work ensures this Cyclone is ready to be driven and enjoyed. From the fuel system to the braking system and weather seals, key components have been addressed with attention to both function and originality. This is not just another classic convertible this is a well-documented, highly original, and properly maintained Cyclone GT that delivers both collector-level credibility and real-world drivability.
