Description
Developed as an entry-level counterpart to the six-cylinder 911, the Porsche 912 combined the new 911 body and chassis with a lightweight four-cylinder powertrain derived from the outgoing 356SC, creating a balanced sports car that has since developed an enthusiastic following of its own. This early 1966 Porsche 912 is particularly noteworthy for its unusual factory specification, combining rare Aga Blue paintwork with a tan interior, an electric sunroof, special-order five-gauge instrumentation, a 5-speed manual transmission, and European-style heater equipment. Currently powered by a professionally built Willhoit 1,950cc flat-four with approximately 800 miles of use, the car is accompanied by its numbers-matching engine and retains its numbers-matching transmission, with the original engine having been rebuilt to 1,750cc specification. Accompanied by approximately $70k in recent receipts and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this exceptional 912 is now being offered for auction in Florida.
The bodywork was refinished in its original Aga Blue paint color approximately 20 years ago and is described as retaining a deep shine with only a few minor stone chips noted. According to the seller, the body remains exceptionally straight with consistent panel gaps and no known rust issues. Exterior equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, bright window and body trim, a driver’s-side mirror, fog lights, an antenna, and a factory electric sunroof. The car rides on slotted 15” wheels fitted with chrome Porsche-crested hubcaps and new Michelin tires that have accumulated fewer than 100 miles. Despite the age of the repaint, the seller notes that the finish remains exceptionally well preserved and presents with the appearance of a much more recent restoration.
