Few European convertibles from the 1960s possess the effortless charm and understated elegance of the 1967 Renault Caravelle Convertible. Stylish yet approachable, sophisticated yet playful, the Caravelle represents one of the most delightful expressions of French automotive design from the entire postwar era - a car that turned heads on the boulevards of Paris in its day and remains a uniquely captivating classic in the hobby more than five decades later. By the late 1950s, Renault - already well established as one of Europe's leading automakers - recognized an opportunity to offer French car buyers something beyond practical, economical transportation. The result was the Caravelle, debuting in the US in December of 1959 and derived from the rear-engined Renault Dauphine platform. Interestingly, the Caravelle was marketed in Europe under the ""Floride"" nameplate. Designed with an emphasis on style and open-air enjoyment rather than outright performance, the Caravelle carved out a distinctive niche in the European sports car market, offering a level of continental flair that was entirely its own. One of the Caravelle's most compelling attributes is its beautifully resolved exterior design, which was developed with input from Italian coachbuilder Ghia. The result was a clean, graceful body with flowing lines, a low roofline, and tasteful detailing that looked far more expensive than the car's modest price suggested. The convertible variant elevated the Caravelle's appeal further still, adding the romance of open-air motoring to an already charming package. With the top lowered and the sun overhead, few driving experiences from the era could match the simple pleasure of a Caravelle Convertible on an open road. The 1967 model year fell near the end of the Caravelle's production run, which concluded in 1968 after a decade on the market. By this point, Renault had refined the Caravelle into its most developed and polished form, incorporating improvements to the drivetrain, interior, and overall build quality accumulated over years of production. A late-production Caravelle Convertible represents the best the model had to offer - the culmination of a decade of continuous refinement applied to one of France's most stylish automobiles. The Renault Caravelle was never produced in vast numbers, and the convertible variant is rarer still. Decades of attrition, combined with the inherent challenges of maintaining a European classic in the American market, have made surviving examples genuinely scarce. For the collector seeking something beyond the expected - a classic that sparks conversation, reflects genuine automotive history, and stands apart from the crowd at any car show - the Caravelle Convertible is a remarkably compelling choice. The 1967 Renault Caravelle Convertible is more than a classic car - it is a portal to the golden age of European open-air motoring, a time when style, simplicity, and driving enjoyment were the paramount virtues of automobile design. Today these cars are cherished by a passionate and knowledgeable community of enthusiasts who appreciate their historical significance, their rarity, and the sheer joy they deliver behind the wheel. Whether you are an experienced European classic collector or a discerning buyer seeking something truly out of the ordinary, the 1967 Renault Caravelle Convertible is one of the most distinctive and rewarding classics available in today's market. Powering this Caravelle Convertible is an 1108cc Inline 4 cylinder engine that breathes through a single 2 barrel carburetor, rated from the factory to produce 51 horsepower and 65 lbs-ft of torque. The 1.1L 4 cylinder is mated to a 4 speed manual transmission that makes this French sports car an absolute hoot to drive. Exhaust exits through a single exhaust port, generating a charming rumble out of the tailpipe. Riding on a set of slotted vented wheels, mounted with radial tires and accented with chrome hubcaps, this 1967 Renault has a great look and even better ride. The black vinyl convertible top is in wonderful condition, easily raised and lowered by a single person. The exterior of this '67 Caravelle has been refinished in beautiful Renault Rouge paint, completing the exterior look of this unique imported classic car. The interior of this 1967 Renault Caravelle Convertible is equally gorgeous! The black bucket seats and folding rear seat have been revitalized with Black leatherette upholstery. The matching black door panels, padded dash, rubber floor mat, steering wheel all look to be in great shape as well while retaining a wonderful stock appearance. A full array of Jaeger instrumentation further augment the sports car feel of this French convertible, including a 100 MPH speedometer, 7,000 RPM tachometer with 6,200 RPM redline, and fuel gauge, along with a couple indicator lights. The dash is finished off with a locking glovebox, cigar lighter, and period correct push-button AM/FM radio. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or you're an established collector seeking to add a unique piece to your collection, this 1967 Renault Caravelle Convertible would make an excellent choice.
