Description
This 1967 Volkswagen Type 3 Fastback was acquired by Kenny Kizewski in Parker, Colorado, in May 1990 as his first Type 3 and was subsequently transformed over the following decade from a largely stock daily driver into an extensively customized show car. The build was completed with contributions from several Colorado specialists, including Randy Bowen of Sportcar Service, American Classics, and Johnny’s Auto Trim, and was later featured in Dune Buggies and Hot VWs magazine. Highlights include a built 1,776cc flat-four engine, Porsche Guards Red paintwork, a custom leather and tweed interior, VDO instrumentation, an Alpine audio system, and numerous shaved and billet exterior details. The car earned first in class at its debut show, later receiving Best of Show honors at the Rocky Mountain Motorworks show in August 2000 as well as a runner-up award at Bandimere Speedway. More recently maintained by a Porsche master technician and stored in a climate-controlled facility, this award-winning Type 3 Fastback is now being offered for auction in Massachusetts.
As part of the build, the body was refinished by American Classics of Alamosa, Colorado, in a two-stage Porsche Guards Red finish with clearcoat. The exterior was extensively smoothed by shaving the factory door handles, hood trim, emblems, and other exterior details, with the doors subsequently converted to solenoid-operated latches. Additional appointments include polished Briz ribbed aluminum bumpers, billet windshield wipers and side-view mirrors, and Weld wheels mounted with Michelin tires. Following completion of the paintwork, the car was returned to Sportcar Service for reassembly, while the undercarriage and engine compartment were also detailed to complement its show-quality presentation.
