The car was completely disassembled, with its components rebuilt, refinished, or replaced with OEM parts as necessary to create the outstanding example presented here today.According to the trim tag, this Camaro was originally finished in LeMans Blue with a black vinyl top and black vinyl interior. During the restoration, the body was refinished in a stunning, high-gloss black with the correct white SS-style stripes, creating the dramatic Triple Black appearance with contrasting stripes that makes this car such a standout. The body panels were rust-free during the restoration, and the quality of the bodywork and reassembly is exceptional. Panel alignment and gaps are better than new, while the original chrome trim and badging have been restored or refinished as necessary and remain in excellent condition. The black vinyl roof, cowl-induction hood, Rally wheels, and crisp white stripes give this Camaro the unmistakable presence that has made the first-generation SS one of the most sought-after American muscle cars of the 1960s. While the car was originally equipped with a 396, the original engine was replaced by the previous owner in 2003 with a highly desirable Quest Racing GM Gen VI 454 cubic-inch big-block V8, representing an investment of approximately $17,000 at the time. This performance-built engine resides in a beautifully painted and detailed engine compartment featuring extensive chrome accents and custom Quest Racing valve covers. The engine features an impressive collection of performance components, including: Cast-steel crankshaft, I-beam connecting rods with ARP bolts, SRP pistons with 9.5:1 compression, Sealed Power piston rings, Clevite main and rod bearings, GM rectangular-port cylinder heads, Manley stainless-steel valves, Crane pushrods, Howards roller rockers and Custom hydraulic roller camshaft. The dual exhaust system delivers a deep, throaty rumble that sounds exactly as you would expect from a properly sorted big-block muscle car, giving this Camaro the unmistakable soundtrack to match its aggressive looks and impressive performance. The mechanic went through the entire car, checking its mechanical components and addressing the work necessary to ensure it was operating properly. Approximately $5,000 in recent service work was performed, and the owner has detailed documentation of the work completed. The car runs, drives, and shifts very well, with everything functioning as expected. The 454 big-block delivers the kind of responsive, muscular performance that makes a four-speed Camaro so entertaining to drive. This is a car that looks terrific standing still but truly comes alive when you turn the key and get behind the wheel. Documentation is another strong point. The owner has multiple folders of records and receipts dating back to 1997, providing a valuable history of the car, its restoration, maintenance, and ownership. In addition to the car and its documentation, the sale includes: Extra new 1968 Camaro hood with chrome smokestacks and mounting hardware, Stock trunk mat and Factory Jack equipment.
