Description
This 1968 Ford Mustang California Special is powered by a 289ci 2V V-8 engine backed by a C4 SelectShift automatic transmission with a 3.00 conventional rear axle and power steering. The independent front suspension uses unequal-length coil springs, tubular shock absorbers, and an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension consists of a live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs and tubular shocks. Braking is handled by 10-inch heavy-duty drums at all four wheels. Finished in Seafoam Green, this Mustang was restored to factory specifications and features a fiberglass decklid with an integrated ducktail spoiler, quarter-panel extensions and non-sequential 1965 Thunderbird taillights. The side profile incorporates non-functional fiberglass side scoops with GT/CS insignias, mid-body side stripes, and chrome California Special rear fender script. Exterior equipment includes a blackout grille, rectangular fog lamps, a louvered hood with integrated turn signal indicators, quarter-turn hood pins, 14-inch GT-style wheels and radial tires. The Ivy Gold vinyl interior features standard bucket seats, an AM radio and tinted glass. According to the Deluxe Marti Report that accompanies the sale, this California Special is one of 4,118 1968 Mustang two-door hardtops with the California Special equipment and was ordered through the San Jose District Sales Office and sold through Charles Reid Ford in Lincoln, Nebraska. The car has been driven 50 miles since the restoration.
