Description
This custom 1968 Ford Mustang fastback known as “The Outlaw” was built by Mustang Brothers. It is powered by a supercharged 2012 GT500 5.4-liter V-8 engine paired with a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission. The engine breathes through Rada Race Lab fabricated custom stainless headers that lead into a hidden exhaust system. The suspension features Mustangs to Fear components, including a C6 front suspension and an MTF Watts-link knock-down rear suspension, along with MTF frame stiffeners and dual-adjustable shocks. A Big Dog 9-inch rear axle with 3.55 gears puts the power to the ground, while Wilwood six-piston calipers with 11.75-inch front and 12.80-inch rear discs provide braking performance, complemented by a push-button electronic parking brake. It rides on one-of-a-kind custom Forgeline wheels that measure 18x10 inches up front and 18x11 inches in the rear, which are wrapped in Nitto Invo tires measuring 275/35R18 front and 295/35R18 rear. The exterior is finished in 2022 Brittany Blue Metallic with Wimbledon White cleared stripes. The paint was wet-sanded and hand-buffed, including the undercarriage. The body features a patent-pending panoramic glass roof, with the car strengthened using convertible inner rockers prior to cutting the roof. It retains the original steel roof “spine” customary on 1968 fastbacks, along with a steel hood and the original steel rear bumper modified for improved fitment. Flush-mount front and rear glass, 1968 GT500KR side scoops, flush-mount front aprons and core support, and a unique rear end with a custom-made decklid, end caps and sequential LED taillights complete the exterior. The polished fuel tank is paired with a custom-engraved NASCAR-style gas cap. Originally converted to right-hand drive, the car has since been returned to left-hand drive and is equipped with a custom polished rack-and-pinion steering system manufactured in Australia. A removable Thunderbird Sports Roadster-style tonneau cover sits over the fold-down rear seat. The interior features custom upholstered bolstered seats, a custom console, a Ringbrothers shifter, custom stereo system with Bluetooth wireless connectivity, custom air-conditioning vents, digital factory-look gauges and power windows with billet handles that mimic the original manual controls. “The Outlaw” was displayed at the 2024 SEMA Show and scored 999/1,000 at MCACN, earning the Diamond Award. The Mustang Brothers build was also featured on PowerNation TV’s “Under The Hood” and has appeared in multiple automotive publications, articles and news clips. The car has been driven only 207 test miles since completion of the build.
