1968 Mercedes-Benz SL 280 SL

A historic convertible to collect and enjoy. Sold at RM Sotheby's Amelia Island Auction 2016. The Mercedes Benz 280 SL “Pagoda” may very well be one of the most collectible convertibles on the classic car market. It earned its nickname thanks to its oddly shaped “Pagoda” hardtop. But, it earned its place in history thanks to the impressive technological advancements it introduced. Its straight-six, fuel-injected engine could reach 60 mph in less than ten seconds. Air conditioning was an option, and each wheel was fitted with a disc brake. What’s more, the solidly built chassis and hardtop were carefully designed to afford scenic views without sacrificing safety in case of a collision or rollover. The 1968 280 SL model represents the culmination of the equally splendid 230 SL and, accordingly, its value is on the rise. No collection is complete without a concourse-level Pagoda, making them necessary buys for car collectors and investors alike. The elegance and comfort of the interior is unmatched and put Mercedes-Benz on the luxury car map. These are cars that beg to be driven down a slow country road with someone special. Even parked, they tell a story. Restored in Germany by marque specialists SL Classics, this 280 SL is ready to participate at any leading car event.
