Description
This 1969 Austin America was sold new by E.F. Sweeney British Cars of San Rafael, California, and is said to have remained in the care of its original owner in the Bay Area until 1995, not long before the seller’s acquisition of the vehicle in 1997. Powered by a 1,275cc inline-four matched with a four-speed automatic transaxle, the car is finished in red over black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a single SU carburetor, wheel covers, front disc brakes, Hydrolastic suspension, seatbelts, and a heater. The fluids were changed in June 2026, and other work involved replacement of the valve-cover gasket, battery, and spark plugs. This Mk II ADO16 is now offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, service records, old photos of the car, spare parts, and a California title in the seller’s name. The ADO16 was developed by Mini designer Alec Issigonis with styling by Pininfarina for sale worldwide under a variety of brands and model names. Known as the Austin America in North America and Switzerland, it was sold exclusively in those markets as a two-door sedan from 1968 to 1972. This example is finished in red and features bright beltline trim, a driver-side mirror, a center-exit exhaust tip, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller tells us that trunk lid was replaced in the 1990s and that the reverse and license-plate lights do not work. There is pitting on the rear bumper along with fading and bubbles in the paint around the vehicle, as pictured in the gallery below.
