Description
1969 Kaiser/Jeep Jeepster Commando Convertible (8702) Sadly, for me, it’s time to thin the herd and make room for a new project, but here’s a chance for another Jeeper to enjoy a rare rig that has knocked out numerous road trips, most recently tackling nearly 4,500 miles in a round-trip adventure to hit the trails in Moab, Utah for the 50th/55th Jeepster Commando anniversary meetup in 2022. After making its first Eastern Chapter Jeepster Jam in 2005 in Clinton, Tenn., this Spruce Tip Green Machine also returned for another gathering to roll through the back country of Slade, Kentucky in 2019. It’s been over two decades since I originally purchased this rig from an owner in Ohio after the Christmas of 2002, and a short time later, a full rebuild/restoration began on this Jeepster Commando Convertible (model 8702). Some reports suggest that possibly less than 100 of this body style – with a full true convertible top AND a fold-down tailgate – were produced in 1969, so it definitely turns heads at the latest Jeep fests dominated by today’s JKs and JLs. While I intended to build the Jeep as stock as possible, not all parts date specifically to the 1969 model year. For instance, the frame is from 1971 which provides an upgraded design with reinforced shackles and front stabilizers for power steering, and the stock Buick V6 odd-fire motor (original to the vehicle) has gone through a major rebuild/modernization. Major work/improvements have been completed over the years; I have receipts to verify all items, most of which were completed by professional shops. This rig passes regular Delaware DMV inspection every two years; it is not special tagged “antique” or “classic.” Feel free to ask questions as I have gathered numerous sources of knowledge over the years. I also have a large collection of parts. The vehicle price is negotiable if you provide your own wheels and tires. Thank you for your sincere interest.
