The 280 SL was first introduced in December of 1967 and ended production in February of 1971. It is the last of the Mercedes W113 series, and has evolved from a sports car into a very comfortable and quiet grand tourer. The biggest change was the upgrade to the 2,778 cc engine with 180 lb-ft max torque and 170 ps max power. This new upgrade, along with each engine being individually bench tested for two hours prior to being fitted, finally gave the W 113 series adequate and guaranteed power.
