Description
This 1970 BMW 2800CS is a US-market example that is believed to have been owned by a BMW dealer out of Manhattan Beach, California, for a time before being sold to an aerospace engineer in 1977. Chassis 2270300 was later acquired in the early 1990s by the seller, with whom it has spent time in Canada and Washington State. Finished in silver over blue leather, the car is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and rides on 14″ Mahle-BBS wheels. It is further equipped with a sliding steel sunroof, air conditioning, and power windows as well as Hella fog lights, a MOMO steering wheel, and an aftermarket stereo. Work since 2023 is noted to have involved rebuilding the carburetors, replacing the cylinder head, servicing the air conditioning system, adding sport lowering springs, and more as detailed below. This E9 is now offered with an owner’s manual, a binder of service records, and a Washington State title in the name of the seller’s spouse. The first of BMW’s E9 coupes, the 2800CS was launched in 1968 and produced until 1971, when it was replaced by the 3.0 CS/CSi. This example left the factory finished in Polaris Metallic (60). Hella fog lights are fitted up front, and further details include a sliding steel sunroof, door-mounted side mirrors, bright window trim, and chrome-finished bumpers with rubber impact strips. The seller tells us that the fenders and trunk have been repainted, and that a patch of rust under the 2800 badge was repaired in 2022. They also note rust near the left-rear window.
