1970 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2

description General Information Car History We are pleased to offer 1970 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 s/n 13049, an exceptionally nicely preserved, very late and well documented US model Queen Mother Ferrari. Introduced at the Paris Auto Show in October 1967 as Ferrari’s latest four-seat touring model, the 365 GT 2+2’s styling was an evolution of the elegant and ultra-exclusive 500 Superfast’s body lines. Ferrari’s all-new 2+2 offered unprecedented standard features for a Ferrari road car including power steering, air conditioning, a new torque tube plus a four-wheel independent suspension with a proprietary self leveling rear suspension system developed with Koni, all combined to make the ride smoother, more comfortable and more sure-footed. As Ferrari’s last model to feature a single overhead cam version of the long-running Colombo 4,390 CC SOHC V-12 engine, the 365 GT 2+2 was rated at 320 BHP at 6,600 RPM and backed up by a smooth and easy shifting 5-speed gearbox. The 365 GT 2+2 was built for the sporting enthusiast who wanted to take flexible friends or small children along for the ride and today gives the quintessential 1960s vintage Ferrari experience. The 365 GT 2+2 is prized for its elegant lines, sumptuous interior, more than adequate performance, impressive engineering lineage and luxurious yet sporting characteristics that are roomy for two adults and two small children, combined with a spacious trunk that will hold enough luggage to make any wife happy, allowing for smooth yet fast long distance traveler.365 GT 2+2 s/n 13049 is a US model originally distributed through William F. Harrah’s Modern Classic Motors in Reno, Nevada, before being sold to an owner in Austin, Texas. By 1979 the 365 GT assumed California-based ownership, and records from the Ferrari Owners Club show that it was in the care of Barry Bellport of Lafayette, California, in 1984. Around 1986, the Ferrari was sold to David Hunt of Piedmont, California, and he commissioned the esteemed marque expert Patrick Ottis to conduct a substantial mechanical restoration that included a rebuild of the 4.4 liter V-12 engine and related mechanical components, including the transmission, braking and suspension systems. In mid-1989, Harry Koue of nearby Aptos, California, acquired the refurbished 365 GT from Ferrari of Los Gatos and showed it on rare occasions, eventually commissioning a very high quality bare-metal repaint in Rosso Corsa. Circa 1994, after he had driven the car little more than 1,000 miles, Mr. Koue then parked both 365 GT 2+2 s/n 13049 and his 246 GT s/n 3532 GT in a heated garage where the two Ferraris enjoyed hibernation together for the next 24 years.365 GT 2+2 s/n 13049 was last registered in California Nov., 1994 and now has 56,063 total miles. Thanks to 25 years of dry and heated storage plus the very low mileage on the mechanical rebuilds of the engine, brakes and suspension by marque expert Patrick Ottis, the matching numbers 4.4 liter V-12 starts instantly, idles like a 3,000 lb tomcat and pulls strongly to the 6,600 RPM redline! The clutch engages instantly and so is obviously near-new while the 5-speed gearbox shifts easily through the gear, even when cold. The engine bay shows well, is very clean and is still fitted with all the very rare and unobtainable original smog equipment in place. The original hood pad also shows well. 365 GT 2+2 s/n 13049 has been fitted with new Koni rear shocks will coil over springs for the correct rear ride height. The original Koni self-levelers shocks are with the car but due for a rebuild. The Ferrari red Rosso Corsa paint is exceptionally nice over a dent-free and mirror-straight body. Panel fit is near perfect and the detail work on the paintwork is exceptional! All of the original chrome work is equally as nice and the stainless steel trim around the windows fits perfectly and is scratch free. The black all leather seats, door panels and inner trim panels are all equally as nice with an excellent patina. The dash top covering is also in unusually nice condition while the wood face on the dash is as-new. All of the glass is in excellent condition with all correct markings. The wood rimmed steering wheels looks absolutely as new. As a US model 365 GT 2+2 s/n 13049 comes with A/C, P/W and P/S and is mounted on it’s original 7 1/2″ x 15″ Cromodora wheels fitted with an excellent set of 215/70/15 VR Michelin XWX tires. With a re-charge of the A/C system, a light service of the carbs, a set of books with their pouch and correct period or replica tools this 365 GT 2+2 would make a welcome addition to the lawn at Cavallino, any Ferrari Club concours or Concorso Italiana at Monterey. FCA judge Chris Dugan has prepared a list of the small times needed for concours showing, e-mail us for the list. We stock and sell many dozens of early Ferraris every year and we have been selling Enzo-era Ferraris since they were new on the dealers showroom floor. It is very rare to have such an unusually nice and complete US model Ferrari 365 GT 2+2. We welcome any professional pre-purchase inspection and welcome any interested buyer to fly in for a test drive.S/n 13069. 365 GT 2+2. USA model with P/S, P/W and A/C.
