Description
This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was acquired by the current owner in 1998 and was recommissioned in 2026 following several years of storage. Work included replacing the clutch hydraulic cylinders, fuel pump, fuel tank, heater and brake hoses, ignition components, fuel injectors, cold star valve, and shifter bushings. It has been refinished in red over Brown MB-Tex and is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a removable hardtop, power steering, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, a Nardi steering wheel, and a Blaupunkt cassette radio. This W113 SL is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, a data plate, original purchase documents, and a New Mexico title. The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example was finished from the factory in Tobacco Brown (423) and was repainted its current shade of red some time ago. Features include a black soft top, a removable hardtop, a driver-side mirror, and US-specification headlights. Touch-up paint was applied to chips in preparation for the sale, and the seller notes dings on the doors and areas of overspray. There are tears in the soft top, and other blemishes are shown up close in the gallery.
