Description
In collector-car circles, the common 1970 Trans Am seen at shows and auctions is almost always a Polar White car equipped with a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic. This car is the direct opposite: an authentic, strike-shortened debut-year 1970 Trans Am built in the single most elusive and desirable specification on the Pontiac registry:
The Strike-Shortened 1970 Run: Due to the extended 1969–1970 GM strike, 1970 F-body production did not begin until February 1970. Only 3,196 Trans Ams were produced in total, making 1970 the lowest regular-production year of the early second-generation run.
Factory Manual Transmission Rarity: Of the 3,196 cars built, only 1,828 were delivered with a factory manual 4-speed gearbox (combining both Ram Air III and Ram Air IV production). Automatic cars represent the remainder of the pool, making a true 3-pedal factory manual shell exponentially harder to source.
