Description
DescriptionThis 1970 Porsche 911S coupe was built into a race car more than two decades ago in collaboration with Craig Watkins, founder of Smart Racing Products. Power comes from a replacement 2.2-liter flat-six linked with a Type 901 five-speed manual transaxle and a ZF limited-slip differential, and equipment includes a Cup-style roll cage, a ducktail spoiler, Sparco racing seats, and extensive chassis upgrades from Smart Racing and other suppliers. Jim Buckley, who later established Buckley Racing, drove the car in PCA Club Racing events throughout the country starting in 2001, setting G-class lap records at courses such as Texas Motor Speedway and Mid America Raceway. After changing hands in 2005, the car was raced by its previous owner over the following five years, reportedly earning five class wins during that time. It was put into long-term storage in 2014 and was refreshed by Analog Autowerks in Alpharetta after being acquired by the current owner in 2026. The 15" cookie-cutter alloy wheels have gloss black centers, and Continental ExtremeContact tires were mounted in preparation for the sale. “Charlie” 1.125” front and rear sway bars have been installed along with Smart Racing monoball bushings. The front suspension has 22mm torsion bars and Bilstein struts with custom Smart Racing shocks, while the rear setup has been modified with reinforced sway bar mounts, Sway-A-Way spring plates with Elephant Racing bushings, 30mm torsion bars, and Fox remote-reservoir coilovers. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with A-Type front calipers, stainless-steel braided hoses, and cryogenically treated rotors. The replacement 2.2-liter flat-six was installed by Buckley Racing in Fort Worth, Texas, around 2002 and is said to feature a 1968 aluminum case and hydraulic timing chain tensioners. Induction is via dual Weber carburetors with ITG low-restriction air filters, and the engine setup also incorporates front-mounted Mocal oil coolers and Jet Hot-coated headers. Recommissioning performed at Analog Autowerks in Alpharetta, Georgia, in September 2026 involved flushing the brake fluid, draining the fuel tank, performing an oil change, and replacing the oil pressure sending unit, fuel filter, engine-bay fuel hoses, fan belt, and hood struts.
