Description
This Mercedes-Benz 280SL is one of approximately 830 examples produced for 1971, the final year of production for the W113 SL. It is noted to have spent time with two owners before the seller’s acquisition in 2017. A restoration was carried out from 2019 through 2023 by Gernold Nisius, German Master Mechanic and owner of SL Tech in Arundel, Maine. The body was repaired, refinished in Silver Gray Metallic, and fitted with a blue soft top, and the interior was restored with Salerno Blue leather upholstery. The 2.8-liter inline-six was rebuilt, and it is linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional work included refinishing the wheel covers and hardtop, installing LED lighting, and replacing various fuel injection, suspension, power steering, and disc brake components. This W113 SL is now offered with the original 1971 vehicle invoice, a reproduction window sticker, spare parts, restoration photos and records, documentation dating from new, and a Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name. The car left the factory finished in Papyrus White (717), and it was repainted Silver Gray Metallic by Werke Classic Center of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, in 2021. Body and rust repairs were performed at that time, a blue soft top was sourced from GAHH was installed, and the bumpers and various seals and trim pieces were replaced. Over 600 photos taken during the build are displayed in the gallery.
