1971 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper

This 1971 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper is here on consignment from a Sarasota local who has owned it since 1994. She didn't buy it from a stranger, she bought it from a close friend named Roger Marks. It's never left that small circle since. After 32 years together, she's ready to let it move on. Hence the Westie is for sale.

Roger Marks bought this Westie brand new in 1971 from Boulder Valley Volkswagen, the authorized VW dealer in Boulder, Colorado. Our seller and Roger stayed close over the years. Once Roger moved to Eugene, Oregon, there was really only one friend he wanted to sell it to. That's how the Westie changed hands in 1994, friend to friend. It's stayed that way ever since.

This one has its original Westfalia data tag right inside the cabinetry, stamped Campmobile 70. That confirms it as a genuine factory Westfalia conversion, not just a Bus with camping gear bolted in after the fact. As mentioned, it started life out west in Boulder, Colorado. It's a dry climate where these classic cars tend to hold up a lot better than most.

A photo of the Westie at a campground in the Rockies circa 1972 is in the gallery.

Verner's Automotive Service in Boulder rebuilt the engine on this Westie in December of 2016, boring it out to 1776cc. That paperwork is included in the sale. At that time the odometer read 142,282. Since then, the seller has put on an average of only 1,000 miles a year to exercise the Westie. The rest of the time, it sat in a climate-controlled storage facility. The odometer now reads 55,532 now, but we know it is 155,532.
