KEY FACTS This BMW 2002 Turbo is a highly desirable and iconic turbocharged sports saloon, representing one of BMW’s most significant performance road cars and among the earliest European production cars to feature turbocharging. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four engine, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. This example is understood to have originally been an Italian-market model, but it is now located in Belgium, where it has only recently been acquired by the seller. The car has reportedly benefited from a restoration, including a full repaint in its original Polaris Silver finish. The odometer indicates 49,867 km, though this is not warranted. EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES Introduced in 1973, the 2002 Turbo was BMW’s first turbocharged production model, and featured flared wheel arches, a ‘KKK’ turbocharger, Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, front and rear spoilers, and distinctive tri-colour graphics. This example is finished in the timeless shade of Polaris Silver with the iconic reversed ‘2002 Turbo’ decals on the front chin spoiler, over a black leatherette-trimmed interior, featuring a red dashboard trim inlay and silver and chrome trim highlights. It rides on a set of 13-inch steel wheels finished in metallic grey with silver lips, fitted with Minerva Radial 109 tyres. Equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, heater and ventilation controls, push-out rear quarter light windows, twist-out front quarter light windows, a VDO analogue clock, a heated rear screen, and a VDO boost pressure gauge.
