1975 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Coupe

Vehicle Description 1975 Pontiac Firebird $31,900 "1975 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Coupe ""While horsepower and torque were on the decline, Firebird production was gaining exponentially, hitting another all time high with sales of 84,063, almost double 1973 sales. Much of the sales increase came from Trans Am with sales of 27,274, more than twice the sales of 1974 and the first time that Trans Am would outsell Formula! Identifying a '75 is easy. Look for the black rubber bumper strips, same as '74, with a larger wrap around rear window."" Tran-zam.com For consignment, a 1975 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am coupe with a title verified 51,395 actual miles. Over the years, 100 Trans Ams have graced our Hallowed Halls and there's nothing we haven't seen. Except this; the first 1975 model to take a spot in our sacred showroom! And it's a doozie; a numbers matching example is stock configuration and low mileage. Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.* Exterior Only four colors were available for the Trans Am in 1975 and this is one of them, Buccaneer Red, produced a full year before Tampa Bay saw their first football game, and presented in two stage application. The screaming chicken sets the stage for the decal palette and in true 70's form, it has feathers of a range of oranges and reds, colors which are repeated on the call outs around the car, notably on the back of the rear spoiler so that those on the street can read what just flew by. The distinctive tail also includes elongated tail lights that define the model and the rear window wraps around for the first time, a feature that would survive until the end of the run in 2002. Wheel flares and chrome splitters also scream Trans Am and this one rides on 15-inch Pontiac Rally II wheels. Imperfections include touched up scratches throughout, a few dings, chips, some off color touch ups, rock chips throughout, drilled holes in the wheel opening, evidence of filler on rear fenders, bubbling, and an area of orange peel on the hood. Interior 11W is the trim code here, and we can safely say the W is for white! It starts on the door panels with vinyl and plastics with the lower plastic section showing some patina. Inside, white bucket seats offer lots of side support and a padded insert while the rear 2+2 maintains a straighter configuration. Seat vinyl is completely intact all the way around. Trans Am lovers will recognize the view of the dash, from the sport 3 spoke steering wheel to the turned aluminum faceplate, and an instrument cluster that sticks around all the way to '81. Clean, concise, and sporty. We have an upgraded AM/FM/CD player but there's also a vintage 8-track player onboard. The Hurst shifter sits in a depression on the center console which eventually provides an armrest. Black carpet is good below and our white headliner shows some sag. A vinyl mat covers the floor of the trunk which shows some use. Drivetrain Under the shaker scoop is the numbers matching 400ci L78 V8, putting out 185 horsepower with a 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to the numbers matching T10 4-speed manual transmission that routed power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.08 gears and Positraction. Power brakes and power steering are supplied and the bay presents cleanly. Undercarriage Some typical surface rust and residual oil are noted on an otherwise clean and solid underside. Dual exhaust runs through glasspack style mufflers on their way to a chrome splitter exit. There are no catalytic converters on board. Power brakes are here as front disc and rear drum and suspension includes coil springs up front and leaf springs in back. Drive-Ability Let's step back to 1975 and fly this red bird around the test loop for a bit. There are no hiccups here as the original drivetrain delivers a strong run and the F-body provides great handling. All the bells and whistles, not to mention lights and gauges, operate just as they did in 1975. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. The strike was over and Norwood, Ohio was back producing Trans Ams in big numbers. But today, 1975 Trans Ams are fairly uncommon and still part of the ascension of collectability Firebirds are currently enjoying. Like a bird, it can only go up from here.
