Description
This Auburn Speedster replica was built by the Auburn Speedster Company of Burbank, California, in 1976. It was owned by entertainer Liberace, who used the car in his Las Vegas stage show in the 1980s, and it remained in his possession until his death in 1987. It was auctioned by the Estate of Liberace in California in April 1990 and was purchased by the seller out of Florida in 2020. The car is finished in red with burgundy fenders and gold pinstriping over red leather upholstery, and power comes from a 302ci Ford V8 paired with an automatic transmission. Equipment includes power-assisted drum brakes, power steering, chrome wire wheels, driving lamps, turn signals, dual spotlights, wind wings, coach doors, and a locking golf bag door. A service totaling over $9,800 was performed in 2022 and included the installation of a replacement wiring harness, fuse block, single-wire alternator, and MSD ignition. This ex-Liberace Speedster replica is now offered with a copy of the superseded 1982 Nevada title in Liberace’s name, an Estate of Liberace auction catalog, copies of news articles on the car, and a Nevada title in the seller’s name listing the car as a 1976 Auburn. The fiberglass bodywork is finished in red with burgundy fenders and gold pinstripes. Features include pontoon-style fenders as well as rear-hinged coach doors. A “flying lady” hood ornament is joined by “Supercharged” badging, and the raked windshield is complemented by wind wings. Further exterior details include bullet-style headlights, driving lamps, turn signals, dual spotlights, and a locking golf bag door. Imperfections in the finish can be seen in the gallery.
