1976 BMW 2002

76 BMW 2002 Model 2dr Upgraded 5spd Manual Transmission Sunroof This 1976 BMW 2002 is a beautifully restored and well-documented example of one of the most beloved classic sports sedans ever built. Finished in elegant Chamonix White over a Saddle interior, this car has had only two documented owners since new. It spent the majority of its life in California under long-term single ownership from 1976 until 2003, benefiting from a dry climate and careful preservation. The previous owner completed a comprehensive restoration, maintaining originality while incorporating tasteful performance and reliability upgrades. Under the hood, the car retains its original, rebuilt M10 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine paired with an upgraded 5-speed manual transmission—an enhancement that significantly improves drivability and highway comfort over the factory 4-speed setup. The drivetrain also features a Petronix ignition system, a Weber carburetor, and a limited-slip differential, all of which contribute to smooth power delivery and a responsive driving experience. The suspension has been upgraded with Bilstein struts and shocks, sport lowering coil springs, and 22-millimeter sway bars, giving the car confident handling without sacrificing comfort. The exterior presents beautifully, with its Chamonix White paint showing excellent depth and shine. The restoration included new moldings, lighting assemblies, and weatherstripping, ensuring the car looks as fresh as it performs. Importantly, it retains all original sheet metal and shows no evidence of rust or rust repair—a testament to its California history. The car also features a manual sunroof and rides on classic BMW alloy wheels that complete its period-correct appearance. Inside, the Saddle interior has been completely redone and looks stunning. The upholstery, carpet, and headliner all show excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. Modern touches include a Viper alarm with remote door locks for added security, but the overall presentation remains true to the original BMW design ethos—clean, functional, and driver-focused. Mechanically, the car has been recently serviced with a new clutch slave and master cylinder, along with stainless steel brake lines, ensuring it's ready for both spirited weekend drives and reliable daily use. The result is a car that feels as tight and composed as it looks—light on its feet, eager to rev, and unmistakably connected to the road. This 1976 BMW 2002 is a fine example of a properly maintained and thoughtfully upgraded classic that blends originality, performance, and style. With its well-documented history, exceptional presentation, and desirable 5-speed conversion, it's a rare opportunity to own a turn-key example of one of the most iconic BMWs ever built. A beautiful car that's ready to show, drive, and enjoy. South Jersey Classics is a 10,000-square-foot classic and specialty collector automobile dealer, featuring 50+ vehicles.
