1976 Opel Kadett

1976 Opel Kadett C 2-Door Coupé 1 Of 2 In US 1.2L 4-Spd Fastback Imported from Germany around 2002, this 1976 Opel Kadett C 2-Door Coupé represents a rare and charming example of Opel's lightweight European sports coupe from the 1970s. The Kadett C was introduced in August of 1973 as Opel's version of General Motors' global “T-Car” platform, a compact rear-wheel-drive design known for its simple mechanics, balanced handling, and lively character. Today these cars are seldom seen in the United States, and this particular example is believed to be one of only two known in the country. Finished in striking Bernstein Gold, the car has a distinctive appearance that immediately sets it apart from typical American classics. The compact coupe body style features front and rear bumperettes along with front fog lights that add to the period European look. Powder-coated wheels complete the exterior presentation while maintaining a clean and purposeful stance. The car presents very nicely overall and carries the kind of unique personality that always draws attention at shows and gatherings. Inside, the cabin maintains its authentic European character with two-tone bucket seats, rubber floor mats, and a German stereo player. The interior layout is simple, functional, and very much in line with the lightweight driver-focused design philosophy of the era. The trunk area remains completely stock and includes the correct trunk mat, board, and spare tire, further reinforcing the originality of the car. Power comes from a 1.2 liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, delivering a light and engaging driving experience that perfectly suits the Kadett's compact size and rear-wheel-drive platform. The car benefits from power front disc brakes, providing improved stopping capability compared to many small cars of its time. It currently shows 89,000 kilometers, which converts to roughly 55,000 miles, though the New Jersey title reads 89,000 miles. The car runs and drives great and offers a fun, easygoing vintage driving experience that feels very different from larger American classics. Accompanying the car are the owner's manual, brochures, and a binder full of receipts documenting its history and maintenance. The Kadett has also earned recognition with a 1st Place award at the Carlisle Nationals, highlighting its presentation and uniqueness among enthusiasts. One of the appealing aspects of owning a Kadett is the surprising availability of parts through European and specialty suppliers, making maintenance and continued enjoyment very achievable. Combining rarity, interesting history, award-winning presentation, and a fun-to-drive character, this Opel Kadett C offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of European GM heritage that stands out wherever it goes.
