KEY FACTS This BMW Alpina B8 3.2 is an exceptionally rare and characterful classic performance saloon, understood to be one of just 10 examples converted by Alpina using the E12-generation BMW 5 Series. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.2-litre inline-six, originally rated at 240PS, which was subsequently rebuilt and upgraded to an estimated 270PS. It drives the rear wheels through a five-speed dogleg manual transmission. The seller states that this example was purchased new directly from Alpina in November 1977 and was first registered in Norway on 7 March 1978, before being imported to Poland by the current owner in June 2023. The odometer indicates 86,289 km, though this is not warranted. The surviving documentation records an initial cost of DM 25,082.40 for the BMW 528 with sunroof, together with DM 17,412.50 for the Alpina conversion. The recorded purchase price was DM 48,444, excluding Norwegian import taxes. The car was fitted with an Alpina B8 Short Motor, originally producing 240PS. In June 1992, the engine was reportedly extensively rebuilt and modified by BMW specialist Heinz Schleicher, with a slight increase in displacement and the installation of a more modern Motronic fuel-injection and engine-management system. Later documentation estimated the output at approximately 270PS. The driv
