This 1978 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 represents a striking example of Maranello's first mid-engine V8 production car, a model that famously broke from tradition with its sharp, wedge-shaped Bertone styling. Finished in a timeless and vibrant Rosso Corsa, the exterior exhibits the classic Gandini lines that set the GT4 apart from the curvaceous Pininfarina designs of its predecessors. This particular late-production Series II example benefits from the refined aesthetics of the era, and in its restoration the bodywork was mildly customized with flared fenders and smooth front and rear fascia, including the wider front grille with fog lamps integrated behind. Wide wheels and staggered sizes give the car the more aggressive, purposeful stance that make this GT4 a standout example sure to be favored by collectors who appreciate its unique 2+2 packaging and balanced mid-engine dynamics. The cabin is a masterclass in 1970s Italian ergonomics, featuring a driver-centric cockpit finished in a sophisticated custom black and red interior with Daytona seats and a custom dashboard. The distinctive "dog-leg" 5-speed gated manual shifter stands prominently as the centerpiece of the driving experience. This 1978 model is equipped with factory air conditioning and power windows, highlighting its status as a grand tourer capable of modern usability. Mechanically, this GT4 is powered by the legendary 2.9-liter quad-cam V8 engine fed by a bank of four twin-choke Weber 40 DCNF carburetors, delivering a symphonic exhaust note through custom headers and visceral throttle response. As a 1978 model, it features the more advanced electronic ignition system, improving reliability while maintaining the raw, mechanical soul that defines 1970s Ferraris. With its independent double-wishbone suspension at all four corners and a chassis developed with input from F1 legend Niki Lauda, this car offers a level of agility and communicative handling that few contemporary classics can match. This 308 GT4 stands as an exceptionally well-presented piece of Ferrari history, ready for the open road or the local concours lawn.
