1979 Chevrolet Impala

1979 Chevrolet Impala Maine Traffic Division Patrol Car Tribute V8 Must See! Few vehicles can recreate the look and atmosphere of late-1970s law enforcement quite like a full-size Chevrolet sedan outfitted with authentic-style emergency equipment, and this 1979 Chevrolet Impala has been transformed into a detailed Maine Traffic Division Patrol Car tribute. Built for shows and displays, it combines period-style police equipment, working lights and sirens, original Chevrolet paperwork, and the unmistakable presence of a full-size American patrol car from the era. Under the hood is Chevrolet's 305 cubic-inch V8 paired with an automatic transmission, providing the smooth and dependable performance expected from a full-size Impala. The car retains the simple, durable layout that made these Chevrolets popular with fleet buyers, while air conditioning blows cold and makes the car comfortable during warmer-weather shows and events. The exterior has been carefully outfitted to create the proper patrol-car appearance. Steel wheels with dog-dish center caps give the Impala a no-nonsense fleet look, while reflective exterior police markings complete the visual transformation. All exterior police graphics are applied as removable reflective stickers rather than permanently painted markings. Mounted above the roof is a Strobe Commander 5000-D center light integrated into the light bar, along with blue Whelen strobes, a spotlight, and siren. The light bar is connected through a quick-disconnect wiring harness, allowing it to be removed when necessary. Additional Whelen equipment includes hidden grille-mounted strobes and rear package-tray strobe lights in orange and blue, controlled through a Whelen WS-295 controller. Wig-wag headlights add another period patrol-car effect. Inside, the police theme continues with a window-mounted radar unit, Motorola radio, PA system, and radio-delete dash configuration. The original factory radio and panel are included with the car, allowing the next owner to return the dash closer to stock if desired. Rubber flooring further reinforces the fleet-spec appearance and makes the interior feel more like a purpose-built patrol car than a standard family sedan. The car also retains a remote trunk release mounted under the dash, another practical feature that fits naturally with the law-enforcement presentation. All emergency lights and sirens are reported to be in working order, making the car especially entertaining and effective at shows, parades, displays, or period-themed events where their use is permitted. Documentation is another strong point. Original dealer paperwork accompanies the car along with the original GM warranty card and a 1979 Chevrolet Police Vehicles brochure. These items add period context and make the tribute presentation even more interesting for collectors who appreciate the fleet and law-enforcement side of Chevrolet history. This car is represented as a Maine Traffic Division Patrol Car tribute, not as a documented former police-service vehicle. It has been assembled to recreate the appearance and equipment of a late-1970s patrol car while remaining an enjoyable classic Chevrolet underneath. Because the emergency equipment and reflective police markings are intended strictly for show use, the lights and decals must be covered or otherwise made compliant before public-road operation where required. With its working Whelen lighting, radar equipment, Motorola radio, siren, PA system, original Chevrolet paperwork, and classic full-size Impala platform, this 1979 Chevrolet offers a unique opportunity for the enthusiast looking for something completely different from the typical collector car. It is a memorable showpiece that is ready to draw a crowd at cruise nights, displays, and automotive events.
