Description
description General Information Car History We are pleased to offer 1981 Ferrari 512 BB s/n 33625, a just fully serviced (at a cost of $41,119.39) low mileage (only 16,376 miles) Euro spec carburated 512 BB with an amazing well documented history back to the day first sold. When first introduced as the successor to the front-engined Daytona at the Geneva Motor show in 1972, the Boxer represented a remarkable evolution as Ferrari’s first mid-engined flagship. As Ferrari’s response to Lamborghini’s stunning Miura, the Boxer did not disappoint, with the 4.4 and later 5-liter, horizontally opposed, twelve-cylinder engine longitudinally mounted in line with the transmission, giving the Boxer a low center of gravity, near the center of mass, with acres of torque and great drive-ability. Clothed in suitably rakish bodywork by Pininfarina, the Boxer was a stunner, with the carburated 512 BB representing the fastest and best sounding of the Boxer line. Today, the Boxer remains a dramatic and exciting car that is both solid yet not demanding to drive.512 BB s/n 33625 was sold new on 03 Aug., 1981 to Switzerland before going to a second owner in France in 1982 and in 1991 went to a second French owner. In 2001 s/n 33625 went to a fourth owner, John Markey, a former Lotus 30 racing driver in England before going to an American client based in London and Portugal. In 2006 we sold 512 BB s/n 33625 for our American client (then based in Portugal) to a client in Connecticut. In 2018 512 BB s/n 33625 was traded in to Ferrari of Washington and in 2021 was sent to Ferrari of Washington’s sister company, Ferrari of San Diego, for a major deferred-maintenance service. The major internal service including a Ferrari certified inspection ($981.50); a tire pressure and tread check ($00.00); a rebuilt starter motor ($2,028.00); a rebuild of all four three-barrel Weber carbs ($7,080.00); new upper coolant hoses and sublet overflow tank ($655.57); a new clutch master cylinder and a rebuild of the brake master cylinder ($2,511.00); a sublet water overflow tank repair ($162.00); replace the rebuilt brake master cylinder with a new unit and two new brake hoses ($1,229.00); a new battery ($639.24); an engine-out major service with new oil, bypass hoses and seals ($9,773.28); new axle boot clamps ($101.10); install engine after major service plus new oil pressure sensor; exhaust gaskets and coolant ($5,312.65); replace brake front proportioning valve and flush brake system ($1,500.00); finalize carbs and ignition with new throttle shaft bushings and distributor rebuild ($7,346.05); install new axle boots ($1,800.00). Work was completed in early April of this year. The total invoice was $41,119.39 at 26,413 kms = 16,376 miles. Drop us an e-mail for copies of the invoice.Today 512 BB s/n 33625 presents well, the body is straight and dent-free with excellent panel gaps and fit while the 41 year old paint shows well but is just beginning to craze with age. Both the fiberglass front spoiler and rear fiberglass valance are all-original and have never suffered the indignities of being miss formed with American 5-mph bumpers. There is minor road rash on the front spoiler and some minor paint crazing on the rear lid from engine heat. The Cromodora wheels are in nice condition with the wider 9 x 15″ rear “Boxer” wheels mounted with a set of Michelin XWX 215/70 VR 15 front and 225/ /70/ VR 15 tires that have good tread but are date-coded out. All lights, lenses and emblems are in excellent condition and the under-body, chassis and floor pan are all in excellent condition. The interior is all original and in excellent condition, considering that it is 41 years old. The dashboard is in excellent with no shrinkage as it has spent little time in the sun. The instruments and controls are excellent, as is the headliner and the carpets. The engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed, thanks to the recent engine-out service and detail. The front compartment is also very tidy. The windscreen washer bag appears to be new, and the spare tire well liner and cover are still in place. The underside of both the front bonnet and the rear deck lid are in good shape. The undercarriage and belly pan are structurally excellent, undamaged and in excellent condition for a car 41-years old. The engine is dry and the suspension arms and components are all in good shape. The A/C compressor has been replaced with a Rotary compressor so the A/C blows cold. The car runs and drives well. The engine starts immediately and runs smoothly, making a unique and pleasurable flat-12 sound which is actually relatively quiet at low speeds or around town. The 5-liter flat-12 pulls cleanly, makes great power and has acres of torque. The transmission shifts well, including second gear, although the clutch is not very progressive, a feature of today’s Boxer clutch replacements. The chassis is tight but compliant and the rebuilt brakes are both powerful and effective. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a wonderfully documented Boxer that has just had a very major service. 512 BB s/n 33625 is a cosmetically attractive example that’s a user-friendly Ferrari thanks to its just-completed extensive major service. It is complete with the briefcase tool kit with all its tools, the jack bag, the jack and accessories and the service records dating back to 1994 to support the thorough maintenance regime the car has enjoyed. 512 BB s/n 33625 is one of the last 512 BBs built, is user-friendly, market-correctly-priced and a pride of ownership Ferrari.S/n 33625: 512 BB.
