1984 Mercedes-Benz 300D

1984 Mercedes 300D Sedan Turbo Diesel California Car Low Miles W123 The W123 chassis has long been regarded as one of the most overbuilt and dependable sedans Mercedes ever produced, and this 1984 Mercedes 300D Sedan is a wonderful preserved example of that reputation. Showing only 83,207 original miles since new, the car spent its life with a single owner from 1984 through 2024 in Oakland, California, a history that explains both its solid condition and its rust-free structure. The original Oakland dealer sticker still remains attached, adding a neat surviving detail that ties the car directly back to its day of delivery. Power comes from the legendary 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-five diesel engine paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Known worldwide for durability and long service life, this drivetrain starts easily, runs smoothly, and has just received five new Bosch injectors to ensure proper performance. Four brand new tires have also been installed, making the car ready to drive and enjoy immediately. Finished in white, the exterior retains its original paint which shows some age consistent with preservation rather than restoration. Inside, the blue MB-Tex interior presents beautifully and highlights why these cars are famous for longevity — the upholstery remains in impressive condition. The wood trim has minor cracks typical of the era but still maintains a proper classic Mercedes appearance. The vacuum-operated door locks function as they should, the factory radio works, and the sunroof operates properly. The fuel gauge reads inaccurately, but otherwise the car remains highly functional and usable. With its California history, clean Carfax report, and rust-free body, this 300D represents the type of honest survivor enthusiasts actively seek — an original W123 diesel that has not been modified or over-restored. It offers the unmistakable solid feel, mechanical simplicity, and long-distance reliability that made these cars famous, and stands ready to be enjoyed as a dependable classic daily driver or preserved as an increasingly collectible example of Mercedes engineering at its peak.
