Description
This custom 1989 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia Syncro Camper is powered by a Subaru 2.5-liter engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and Syncro four-wheel drive with a factory one-knob locking differential. The Subaru engine conversion was professionally installed and integrated with the factory systems. Built by Small Car Performance during the COVID period, this Vanagon underwent a comprehensive restoration and restomod incorporating components from Small Car Performance and GoWesty. Mechanical upgrades include an improved cooling system and updated suspension components. Braking is handled by Small Car Performance front and rear big-brake kits. The exterior was refinished in Mouse Gray, a 1964 Volkswagen paint color, during a windows-out repaint that included removal of the glass, seals and trim. Exterior features include a roof-mounted solar panel and rear ladder. The restored interior features Recaro Specialist M seats with optional armrests, a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel and a Boss audio system with a subwoofer and backup camera. A Vintage Air climate-control system provides in-dash air conditioning. The Westfalia camper equipment includes a rear bench seat, folding table, kitchenette with a two-burner stove, sink, refrigerator and storage cabinets. Additional camper equipment includes a Propex propane heater and dedicated auxiliary battery system. The restoration also incorporated electrical improvements, interior refinements and additional components from GoWesty and Small Car Performance. The vehicle has had two owners, including the original owner, a college professor, and the current owner, who commissioned and oversaw the restoration.
