Exterior Overview The J77 Land Cruiser is known for its determination and grit. It has a reputation for being unkillable, due to its hearty body-on-frame platform, robust diesel engine, and heavy-duty suspension. In fact, Toyota has refused to stop building this chassis, and it’s currently in the middle of a forty-plus-year production run. This 1992 is also a certified stunner and is finished in a brand-new coat of one-off Buckley Black paint. Aside from a few light imperfections, the body is in good shape, and this stunning lifted 4×4 is set off by 20″ wheels, a set of OEM rainguards, and rides on ProComp dampers. Powered by a trusty 4.2L six-cylinder, this rig is fresh off a comprehensive service and boasts only 132k verified and documented miles on the clock. Durable enough to be daily driven, this lovable Landy would also be able to pull double duty as a dedicated overlander, or bonafide beach bomber. Collectable, capable, and cool, this Japanese Classic is perfect for discerning off-road enthusiasts, families on the go, and those with an adventurous spirit! Interior Overview The cabin is simple and spacious. Drivers of all sizes can find the ideal seating position courtesy of a tilt-adjustable steering column. The seating position and low beltline allow for much better visibility than most trucks we sell. A Nardi wood grain steering wheel adds some panache to the cabin, and a new American radio adds Bluetooth functionality. Power mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion. Ready to be enjoyed year-round, the simple-to-use climate system pipes in cold AC and piping hot heat. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a large sunroof can unfurl at a moment’s notice, and the rear quarter glass butterflies outward too. The seats are upholstered in a dark blue and charcoal thatched cloth. The seats lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are in good nick. The same material is found in the door cards, which have resisted major wear. The headliner and carpets look fine, and aside from the typical dash cracks and some plastic damage by the shifter trim there is little to complain about inside the cockpit. Mechanical Overview This ladder chassis beast is one tough cookie, and the same can be said for the 1HZ powerplant. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 4.2L churns to life with the twist of the key, courtesy of two new 12v batteries. A new fuel filter, engine air filter, and a new intake hose were installed as soon as it went onto our lift. The six-cylinder is a smooth and torquey mill, and we flushed the coolant and added a new thermostat so that it could stay on top of thermal management. It’s mated to a stout automatic that shifts like a champ. The pilot can select between 2WD and 4WD depending on the outside conditions, and an Aisin manual hub locking upgrade was performed at some point in Japan. To bolster the driveline, one of our trained techs replaced the front transfer case output seal with a new one and rebuilt the hubs. We also rehabbed the power steering system with a new steering stabilizer. This beast gets up to highway merging speeds easily, and when you need to slow down, disc brakes are standard at each corner. The rear pads were a tad low, so we replaced them and changed out the rotors, too. Freshly aligned, this rig tracks straight as an arrow, and grip is handled by brand new 33″ all-terrain tires. *California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
