Description
Stock #7242 Offering a driving experience that's second to none, this unique, frugal, and fun fourbie may just be your next favorite Japanese Classic! Exterior Overview We hear it time and time again at the dealership. Modern SUV’s all feel the same, look the same, and cost an arm and a leg to maintain. Wouldn’t it be nice to drive something that evokes a sense of nostalgia, yet remains durable, efficient, and fun to drive? The answer lies in this 3 door Mitsubishi Pajero. Optioned with a spritely 2.8 turbodiesel and a slick shifting manual gearbox, this 1994 is just at home on highway hauls as it is putting around the city. It looks sleek too, finished in Dark Green Metallic (F76), and set off by OEM rainguards and tasteful 16″ bullethole wheels. Save for a few chips, dings, and clearcoat loss of gloss, it’s really hard to critique the cosmetics of this 30 year old runabout, especially when the 81k verified and documented miles on the clock are so impressive. Offering a driving experience that’s second to none, this unique, frugal, and fun fourbie may just be your next favorite Japanese Classic! Interior Overview The interior is simple in design, yet features all the power amenities and equipment you’d need to excel on your daily commute. It’s also durable, crafted in a thick pile cloth, which shows well across both rows of seating. Sure the driver’s bolster has gone a bit flat, but the seats still hold you nicely with the assistance of adjustable bolsters and lumbar support. The steering column can also be tilted at will. Controls for the center stack are within arm’s reach, and a utilitarian climate control system has the ability to flick on cold A/C or hot heat at a moment’s notice. Adjacent to the HVAC, period-correct Alpine audio works like a charm. If you prefer to let some natural airflow enter the cabin, both power windows work well. Power locks, a factory keyless remote, and power mirrors are also operable, although the latter no longer electronically fold like they did from the factory. The carpets are clean, as is the headliner, despite lightly sagging up front. The remaining materials are all in good nick, from the optional carpeted floor mats, to the dash cover and door cards, and even a rare factory cargo shade is present to keep prying eyes off your goodies in the trunk. Save for a missing ashtray, it’s really hard to find anything to gripe about inside this lovely rig! Mechanical Overview The 4M40 Turbodiesel under the hood is a real gem. Not only is it simple to service and good on fuel, it’s chain-driven, making regular timing belt services a thing of the past. Ours cranks over with haste, care of two new 12v batteries, and we changed out the engine air filter and fuel filter for good measure. The turbocharger delivers significant giddyup and around town this runabout is exhilarating to drive. It’s also highway capable, and the 5 speed gearbox is geared nicely for longer hauls. It shifts through the tree predictably, and shoots power to a class-leading super select 4WD transfercase. The driver can slot in and out of 4WD while on the move, and if you need to stop and brace yourself for loose surfaces, a center locking differential and low range are handy. The suspension cruises comfortably, thanks to a massive overhaul we performed. All new shocks improve the ride, and we replaced both front upper and lower ball joints for good measure. The power steering system is direct, and benefits from new inner and outer tie rods that made dialing in a fresh alignment seamless. Braking performance is more than adequate, and to provide further stopping power, we wrapped the handsome polished alloys in brand new Falken A/T rubber. This Pajero seems to get it all right, and it only takes one drive to realize why these marvelous Mitsubishis have such a cult following! *California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
