I should mention we also popped in a new Genuine Mercedes-Benz oil level sender with a new o-ring since we noticed it was a little wet. We had the car up in the air yesterday to do a wellness check and a once over since a few bidders have reached out about road tripping the car back home and it's ready to go. We're super happy with this car and I can't wait to talk to the new owner later this afternoon. This is a NO RESERVE auction and is selling today! Good luck! It was the first thing I looked for when I looked the car over in the owner's garage and then got it up on the lift. I've done a few and it is not a scary job at all. Can you give me a rough idea of how big a job it is to perform a replacement? Has the head gasket on this car been replaced recently? Per the copy and records we just performed a huge overhaul on the system including the expensive blower motor regulator too along with a new compressor. Defoggers work - That amount of head gaskets is not that uncommon on these engines. M104 and M103s (even the M102) really like to leak externally. - Per photo #211 the sunroof vent is photographed as open. I think our headliner guy cracked the vents and he covered them up. I didn't notice until I was shooting the video and you can hear my confusion. You can still find vents on eBay for cheap luckily if you wanted to convert it. - I have the books and manuals! October 11th, 2026 at 8:41pm ESTStuttgart_Steel (492) Seller 1@skarthur The answer is kinda both. It was replaced by the dealer in 2001 at 60k miles (right when originals pop). Newer gaskets have revised strengthening at the rear left near the oil passage that usually fails and creates an external leak. It even looks like the dealer replaced the cylinder head in conjunction with the gasket. I’ve also posted pictures and did a video inspection for the rear left corner of the motor where the oil leaks from the head. October 11th, 2026 at 7:45pm ESTskarthur (14) 1Such a fun color combo. Question regarding the "updated head gasket". Does that just mean the head gasket was replaced, or is this somehow a better head gasket than the known to fail original?
