I also have a 1977 mercedes 300d and to be completely honest i almost love the e430 just as much. The e430 also has perfect power i can cruise on the highway going 100 plus mph and it feels like im going extremely slow. Back then I was not a fan of the facelift’s exterior styling changes, the relaxed+rounded front grille and hood detail, the changed rear taillight/back-up lens. I didn’t know about the leather. To add some info about my car, over time I periodically cleaned & treated the leather with leather conditioner, it’s still in excellent condition. In 2022 I reconditioned/polished the headlamp & high-beam lenses with Meguiar’s kit (see photos). At the time I also clayed & waxed the exterior. Very few miles driven since, only in good weather. Might as well do that job while you have the pan and filter out.
