You can check for the numbers on the left side of the transmission, just above the oil pan, on the side of the actual transmission case there should be a rectangle area which has on it the stamped numbers. The numbers for the engine are harder to see because they're stamped on the engine block right at the rear top of the edge where it mates with the transmission. Although the transmission fluid has been changed twice, the carfax shows in 2013 at 111k miles it was drained and replaced by Mercedes Benz. Having owned one myself, among more than a dozen other MBs of the same era, there's a lot to like about the important W202 series of AMGs. They are quite easy to live with, and relatively dependable, in daily use.
